Wichita State Graduate Stories – Andrew Martin

When I graduated from high school, I
wasn’t a person who was willing to take risks. I was kind of static and didn’t
really know where I was going and over the last couple years, especially, I’ve
been more willing to step outside of my comfort zone and try new things that have
helped me build me into a better person. Most people don’t associate a
communication degree with aviation but I think that diversifying my
portfolio means a lot of different things and getting my pilot’s license
was more than anything a character building experience that has helped me
become far more confident in everything else I’ve done and helped me become more
task oriented, better at multitasking and better at speaking with people. And, I
think it helps me out in all aspects of my life. Through my major and through all the
courses I’ve taken at WSU, I have had so many mentors and so many experiences
that have encouraged me to expand my potential and become the person who I
was born to be and take off. Graduation is a time where all of my
family, all of the people who have made my experience what it is over the last
four plus years, will come together and celebrate something that’s a big change
for all of us and I’m looking forward to being able to be there with them and
just enjoy the experience. Walking across stage, it’s gonna be surreal. I’m gonna
see so many faces I’ve seen throughout my time here at WSU and I’m not gonna
lie it’s probably gonna bring tears to my eyes. My name is Andrew Martin and
today I’m graduating with a bachelor’s degree in strategic communications and a
minor in general business.
