Off Duty Chases Fleeing Felons

you hear me say this all the time on the channel chasing fleeing felons gets you in unnecessary gunfights welcome to today’s active self-protection lesson I’m your host John Correa today’s video comes to us out of Costa Rica today’s video is made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of companies like Lucky gunner comm please head to Lucky gunner calm and thank them for being a sponsor of active self-protection so this motorcycle that you see on the left hand side actually has two robbers you watched one of them just walk in and then the second guy leaves his bike stationed here and running well these guys walk in both of them with firearms and start shaking everyone down so you see the guy here he’s got a gun out and he’s telling everybody I want your wallet I want your money I want your phones those kinds of things and the guy behind the counter is doing the exact same thing so these guys have themselves a robbery going and everybody is really compliant now the guy on the left side there in the white shirt it’s actually an off-duty cop but he’s being very chill here and biding his time so what we’re gonna see here now is these guys are like hey man I want a couple of beers for us to celebrate our robbery no joke that’s what the news story says go look they’re gonna read the news story so she says oh here here’s a bottle of liquor so the dude goes alright cool man I got us a bottle of liquor puts his gun away and waves goodbye to everybody for them to get back on the bike well that tells the cop nope it’s time to go out he’d when he challenges them they raised their guns at him and he starts shooting at him go read the news story linked in the description both of these bad guys were perforated multiple– they they both ended up in the hospital they ended up jumping off the bike and running off he shot him both a bunch of times they both showed up at the hospital and it have been a 21 year old and I think a 16 year old looks like they’re both gonna make it face a bunch of justice and that is where this one ends boy it’s a scary situation and I get that we don’t want robbers to get away but honestly I cannot say enough getting an unnecessary gunfights puts you in unnecessary mortal peril so if you were that armed guy would you have taken that opportunity and chase them or would you have just stood your ground and establish dominance in your space let me know in the comments what your thoughts are I know you already know mine let’s think first about how our armed robberies start these guys get to set the timing of the attack you as the defender are always on the defense so you’ve got to play defense and not try to play often so we see this guy here and he is you know shaking everyone down now we know at this point that this guy here in the white shirt is an off-duty officer we know that he is armed and he has the capacity as well as the heart to stop this however he is waiting his turn one of the biggest keys to surviving an armed robbery is waiting your turn so that you don’t go when you give the bad guy a chance to get the drop on you and you take your turn when it’s available and with two bad guys what I want you to see here is he’s actually not looking it doesn’t look to me at the closest bad guy he’s looking at the far one because those two bad guys again it raises multiple attackers does raises the difficulty exponentially so you got to wait for the right opportunity when you can get both these guys stacked get good shots on him without any bystanders around and do minimal risk to yourself and to others so he just waits his turn and I think that’s really really wise now then these guys are you know doing all kinds of crazy stuff and and I get it everyone else is compliant and if you don’t have attitude skills and plan to protect yourself sometimes the only thing you can do is comply and hope for the best now I think really arrogant here for him to wave goodbye and I don’t know if that’s what set our defender off or whatever but as soon as he had an opportunity he got after these guys now like I said earlier I don’t recommend getting in non mandatory gun fights I don’t recommend getting an optional gun fight so chasing these guys out into the parking lot when he didn’t have to put him at significant risk and the guys did end up shooting back at him which put him at risk as well so at that sense man just let it go file a police report buy yourself a new cell phone if you told me hey John you had to buy a new cell phone it’s twelve thirteen hundred bucks but then you don’t have to get in a gunfight I’d probably take that and I think that you would as well now that said this guy’s a cop he was trying to take them you know and arrest them he felt like that was his job I think even for off-duty officers you’re not obligated to do that but that’s just me so you know you’re not legally obligated to do that at any given time but make sure that you’re doing smart things here that you’re not putting yourself at risk you can see here that this guy’s got some cover as well marksmanship skills incredibly important our defender needed to be able to put shots on-target against these guys and that’s one guy at least in the dark helmet is hiding behind that truck so being able at some distance 7 to 10 yards put a shot in a small incredibly important skill if you’re going to win a gunfight and this guy definitely did win the gunfight but you are gonna notice at least a couple of shots there one went off now you’re gonna see a second one go off from the bad guy here and recognize that this was a significant risk so was it a smart risk I’m not positive that it was so I would say if you can just let it go but if you have to wait your turn and then take your turn at the end of the day this officer got shots on-target wasn’t hurt himself no one else was harmed these bad guys ended up paying the price for that and the hospital bills so he covered his ass
