Networking Tips

Hi! My name is Kathleen, I am a Career Advisor
in the University Career Center and I’m going to share with you five helpful tips
for networking. Tip #1: Networking isn’t just about making
connections, it’s about maintaining them. So when you go out and you make connections
with professionals, make sure that you follow up so you can build that relationship with
them. Tip #2: Don’t wait until you graduate. Start building connections now. You can start with your inner circle, with
who’s in your community right now, with your classmates, your professors, those that are
in student organizations. Tip #3: Networking can happen at any time,
so make sure that you’re prepared. Start to work on your 30 second elevator pitch
which includes who you are, what you want to do, and what kind of jobs you would be
interested in. Tip #4: Don’t limit the areas that you decide
to network in. Say you are a marketing student, you can network
within sports, within hospitality, within other areas that would have marketing jobs
available for you. Tip #5 of why we network: 70% of jobs are
found through networking. So make sure you don’t miss out.
