4169 – Automate Patient Safety Survey PDF Report Production

MICHELLE: Hey, Lon,
how’s it going? LON: Hi, Michelle, just
getting some water. MICHELLE: I’m getting coffee. LON: How was your holiday? You have a good New Year’s? MICHELLE: Yeah, it
was pretty good. How about yours? LON: Pretty good. Relaxing. MICHELLE: Awesome. SPEAKER: Oh, hi,
Michelle and Lon. How are you? MICHELLE: Oh, I’m doing good. How are you? SPEAKER: How was your holidays? MICHELLE: Pretty good. LON: Nice and relaxing. SPEAKER: Hey, I heard
that you guys were going to SAS Global
Forum to present a paper about patient safety. Can you tell me a
little bit about it. MICHELLE: Yeah,
we’re pretty excited about this presentation. Patient safety
and safety culture are really important
at Agency Healthcare. And there’s a
survey that goes out about every two years
that kind of takes a pulse on the views of staff’s
opinions on Agency’s cultures. So that’s essentially what
our presentation and project is about. LON: The survey team is
tasked with analyzing and also perhaps analyzing the whole
entire report for the hospital. So multiple reports go out
to a different hospital and also with different
leadership within the Agency Healthcare system. SPEAKER: Oh, wow, there must
be something a lot of people are interested about. LON: Yeah, that’s why
we have to figure out a way to automate the
whole entire process, that will save us some time. SPEAKER: So how is the process
the last time you did this? MICHELLE: Well, the first
time we did this, in 2016, it was 500 reports
that we ended up creating for the entire system. It was a huge project. And I think the biggest
thing with that was it was just such a manual process. So I mean, like 500 reports,
manual report production, and it was just a
ton of customization, because we were sending it out
to all the different hospital’s leadership, and there’s serious
metrics that they needed. So with all of that, we knew
we just wanted to get it right, and it’s really
important information that’s used by leadership
to essentially drive change. So just knew that this is
really important stuff. We want to make sure
you’re doing a good job. SPEAKER: So how about this time? What did you do to automate it? LON: So this time we have a lot
more reports and customization. We have 855 reports total
that we need to produce. But this year, we
leveraged with new staff, and we leveraged different
property, different coding in SAS, like pretty basic
macro for proper reports on basic procedure. But then we combine
it in a way that would can actually automate the
whole entire report production. That save us a lot of
time in term of validation and all that process. SPEAKER: That sounds
really impressive. So I can immediately
think of something I could use like what you did. So where– how can I learn
about this technique? LON: Yeah, we would do a
presentation at SAS forum this year. So if you are interested,
we come and visit and see your presentation. SPEAKER: I can’t wait.
